Bear came too.
We packed our blue backpack and our yellow boots. Mum checked the map. I checked on Bear.
“Ready?” she asked.
Bear and I were ready for anything.

We packed our blue backpack and our yellow boots. Mum checked the map. I checked on Bear.
“Ready?” she asked.
Bear and I were ready for anything.

We took the path beside the lake. Every few steps, I found something to show Mum.
A wiggly branch. A leaf shaped like a hand. A hill that looked like a sleeping giant.

At the cottage, we opened our sketchbook. Mum drew the hill. I drew the leaf.
Bear watched from the bench. We decided his best bit was the picnic.

When it was time to go, the backpack felt a little heavier. It was full of drawings and things to remember.
“Can we come back?” I asked.
“Of course,” said Mum. “And until then, we have our story.”
